I recently had an email from someone who had asked AI about the role of an attorney (through Lasting Power of Attorney for Finance and Property) which advised them that as an attorney they were prohibited from ever offering a third party top up should the donor need a care home where the family wanted to add to the local authority budget to secure the care home they preferred. AI emphatically declared this a ‘conflict of interest’ which is nonsense. There have been many scare stories about AI – the worst being an ongoing case in the US where an AI therapist dissuaded the user from revealing his suicidal thoughts to his mother and then signposted the young man to websites which outlined methods of suicide.  The person subsequently committed suicide hence his parents are suing the AI company.

AI is still in its infancy, whilst the aim appears to put as many people out of jobs as possible, we are not there yet and I would encourage the public to be cautious about using it to answer questions about the law especially where you have complex financial situations that AI cannot process nor fully understand.
