The definition of cookies below is taken from an excerpt from Wikipedia (the full page can be accessed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie)

A cookie, also known as an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie, is usually a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user’s web browser while a user is browsing a website. When the user browses the same website in the future, the data stored in the cookie can be retrieved by the website to notify the website of the user’s previous activity. Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember the state of the website or activity the user had taken in the past. This can include clicking particular buttons, logging in, or a record of which pages were visited by the user even months or years ago.

Although cookies cannot carry viruses, and cannot install malware on the host computer, tracking cookies and especially third-party tracking cookies are commonly used as ways to compile long-term records of individuals’ browsing histories.
Other kinds of cookies perform essential functions in the modern Web. Perhaps most importantly, authentication cookies are the most common method used by web servers to know whether the user is logged in or not, and which account they are logged in under. Without such a mechanism, the site would not know whether to send a page full of sensitive information, or a message saying “sorry, you need to log in”. The security of an authentication cookie generally depends on the security of the issuing website and the user’s web browser.

How we use Cookies on this site.

We are using cookies supplied by Google Analytics to help provide information on visitors, page views, the number of people visiting our site and also the type of browser that is being used. This helps us create a better viewing experience for our users by allowing us to ensure that the right information and viewing elements are delivered correctly.
We may also incorporate Google AdSense too in order to help bring you relevant advert information. This is provided by a third-party provider (Google) and is done so to offer relevant and valid adverts.

For any e-commerce or payment mechanisms cookies are used to store item purchases for the session of your visit. A cookie may also be placed to store your username to help your shopping experience on your next visit.
Any off-site advertising will be supported through the use of cookies, these are in place to help deliver relevant adverts to your viewing experience.

Sara is reliable, professional and very knowledgeable but, most importantly, has great communication skills. She is able to explain complicated legal matters in a clear and easily understandable manner. It is always a pleasure to work with Sara and we look forward to working with her in the future.

Kate Moffatt
I worked with Sara at the Alzheimer’s Society for many years when I was the living with dementia officer running support groups for people with dementia in Tower Hamlets and later at central office in St Katherine Dock. I then moved to Age UK where I was a Dementia Advisor and now work within Lambeth Social Services Case Co-ordinator for the Social Services Enablement Team. I am really excited at the prospect of arming people with information before dementia affects them and also support Sara’s aim of delivering legal and welfare benefits talks to established community groups. In my experience accessible legal information is greatly appreciated by carers.

My day to day work involves looking after my clients’ book keeping needs, keeping them organised, doing their VAT returns and keeping them in control of their businesses. My business is called Admin Ambulance and as well as book keeping, I offer other services such as helping someone sort out probate after a loved one has passed.

My de-cluttering services are also popular. My background has always in Financial Services and seeing the good work that Sara is doing through Pathways Through Dementia, I wanted to offer my support. I have been allocated the post of Treasurer and look after the financial records of the charity.

Lizzie McClelland

Trustee

I have been working as a solicitor for over 7 years and specialise in employment law. In that time, I have represented various charities across a wide range of issues and hope to bring some of that experience in supporting Sara and her charity.

On a personal level, I have always been inspired by the important role which carers fulfill in our society and I am delighted to be able to assist Pathways’ objective of providing invaluable information about dementia.

Kim Flitcroft

Trustee

As the carer for an elderly relative living with dementia, I’ve found Pathways through Dementia a very useful source of advice and support. I fully support Sara’s aims to grow the charity and increase general awareness about legal issues related to living with dementia.

We urgently need to develop strategies to help our ageing population – we’re all going to get there one day! I work in television as a drama and documentary director. My very first film was made with elderly patients in the geriatric ward of a hospital. Respect, care and compassion for our elderly friends, family members and neighbours is a subject I care deeply about.
